“The other man” summary:

This is a sordid tale of a scorned husband who seeks out the man he thinks is involved with his wife. Peter (Liam Neeson) and Lisa (Laura Linney) have been married for 30 years. He is a successful web designer, and she is a top-fashion shoe designer. After receiving kudos for her new designs, she has dinner with her husband and casually asks him whether he believes that couples can really stay together for their entire lives. Although he is shocked by her question, he of course says, that yes he does. She then asks him if he could have an affair with another woman. This was the first hint that he had that their relationship might be becoming strained.

After Peter hears a phone message to Lisa from another man, he realizes that she may be having an affair. Fueled by both jealousy and disappointment, Peter begins to do some research into her personal computer files. There he discovers intimate photos of his wife and her new lover, Ralph (Antonio Bandares). Peter loses all in interest in life other than to pursue the new lovers and hopefully confront them. Unfortunately, by now his wife has disappeared. His diligent detective work offers him clues as to Ralph’s whereabouts. His quest brings him to the streets of Milan. He is determined to not only track them down, but to exact his revenge. However, he soon discovers a maze of secrets about his wife that had been long hidden from him.

The husband sets out to find out all he can about the other man, eventually even forming an unusual friendship with him. Through a series of meetings and emails, Peter not only uncovers the truth about his wife’s affair, but reveals his wife’s secrets to her unsuspecting lover. Peter and Ralph begin meeting in the back room of a Milan shop where individuals play chess. Ralph speaks freely about his life and sees himself as a free spirit who is proud of his lively imagination. Peter realizes that the facts he has discovered about his wife and her lover give him a sense of power over them. He must now search his soul and decide whether to follow his original path of revenge.
